Actors’ Equity Association announced today that it reached a new three-year agreement with the organizers of BroadwayCon, a three-day expo where fans can meet and interact with Broadway stars.

“Senate Republicans, like their House colleagues have stabbed us in the back. The Senate bill eliminates the deductions for ordinary and necessary business expenses, including agent fees, audition costs, research, coaching and classes and transportation, among other expenses, which will raise taxes and make it harder for actors and stage managers to maintain their viability in the marketplace.

Actors’ Equity Association announced today new data showing members have earned more than $263,000 in the two years since the Union’s 99-seat Agreement was introduced to theatres in Los Angeles. Since the contract was introduced, it has been issued 225 times, leading to an average payment of $1,170 per contract.

"Equity Membership Candidates in different parts of the country have different needs and goals. This change brings the program into the time in which we live," said Kevin McMahon, Chair of the Entry to Equity Committee. "With this change, EMCs have more flexibility, more choices and ultimately they will have a better experience. I am thrilled Equity's National Council has embraced these changes with a unanimous vote of support.”

Actors' Equity, the national labor union representing professional actors and stage managers, released a groundbreaking new diversity study of employment on two of its major contracts. The study, which examined the casts of new productions that opened between 2013 to 2015, shows that women and members of color have fewer work opportunities and often draw lower salaries when they do find work.

To perform the study, we compiled new weekly employment opportunities on all contracts that began performances between Jan. 1, 2013, through Dec. 31, 2015. Weekly employment opportunities excluded per-performance contracts with no guaranteed employment. And by focusing on new employment opportunities, we analyzed the opening night casts during that window, excluding all replacement contracts as well as any shows that opened prior to 2013.
