Malcolm D. Ewen, a longtime Chicago-based stage manager who served as a National Councillor representing members on the Central Regional Board of Actors’ Equity, passed away last night surrounded by loved ones following a battle with cancer. 

Actors’ Equity Association, the national union representing more than 51,000 theatre actors and stage managers, released testimony submitted to the House Ways and Means Committee on the need for tax fairness for performing artists, many of whom have faced a tax increase following the passage of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TJCA).

Actors’ Equity Association has announced that Lynn Rhinehart has been named Special Counsel, effective immediately.

Representatives from Actors’ Equity Association joined the 32nd Annual Arts Advocacy Day meeting in Washington, D.C. to protect the bipartisan National Endowment for the Arts. It is estimated that every NEA dollar generates 10 dollars in arts funding. However, due to the partial government shutdown that began December 22, the NEA has been closed.
